Kicking Off an Incredible Year with the Hill Marketing Association: Workshops, Networking, and Growth!
Last year was an incredible one for the Hill Marketing Association. We had the privilege of collaborating with several leading marketing companies and departments across the city. A big thank you to Bravo Tango, The Phoenix Group, and Brandt for partnering with us and making our workshops truly memorable. Our spring event, Networking Under the Stars, was a huge success, and we’re already excited to host another amazing event this year!
We're thrilled to kick off another year of exciting activities with the Hill Marketing Association! With an incredible team guiding us through the year, we held our first official meeting on October 7th. During the meeting, we discussed the marketing knowledge and skills everyone is eager to gain from their time with the Hill Marketing Association.
We're excited to offer more workshops this year covering a range of topics, including SEO/SEM, Event Marketing, HR Personal Branding, Advertising, Branded Content, and Social Media Marketing.
Several of our members attended the annual Hill Dinner on October 9th, which provided a fantastic networking opportunity. It was a great chance for our members to connect with fellow Hill students and local business professionals.
We kicked off the year with a fun team bonding activity on October 30th. Our team gathered at Activate for some exciting games, then headed to Houston Pizza for pizza and drinks. It was the perfect opportunity for everyone to relax, get to know one another better, and build excitement for the year ahead with the Hill Marketing Association.
On November 27th, we kicked off our first group learning session, which focused on HR Personal Branding and its importance in today’s competitive job market. The session covered key strategies for career success, starting with how a well-crafted personal brand can help present a clear, authentic image to potential employers.
We also disscussed essential aspects of effective resume writing, offering practical tips on how to best showcase your skills and experiences. The importance of interview preparation and etiquette was emphasized, highlighting how thorough preparation and professionalism can leave a lasting impression on hiring managers.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to the importance of researching companies and roles—understanding a company’s culture and tailoring your application accordingly can demonstrate your genuine interest in the position. Networking was another key topic, with a focus on how building meaningful connections can unlock new career opportunities.
Finally, the session wrapped up with a discussion on maintaining a strong online presence, particularly on LinkedIn, to effectively showcase your expertise and connect with potential employers. Overall, it was an incredibly valuable session that equipped members with the practical tools and strategies for standing out in the job market.
On December 4th, following our group learning session, we held our first company workshop of the year, featuring Josh Fink, Director of HR Business Partners, and Kim Bohay, Manager of Talent Development at Viterra. They led an engaging and insightful session on HR Personal Branding, focusing on how we can better present ourselves professionally.
The session began with a review of the results from the Predictive Index Behavioural Assessment, which members took before hand, providing valuable insights into our individual work styles and strengths. Josh and Kim then shifted focus to practical career development strategies, covering topics like effective resume writing, where they shared tips on how to craft resumes that truly highlight our skills and experiences in the best possible light.
Additionally, they provided expert guidance on interview preparation and etiquette, helping us refine our approach to job interviews and ensuring we present ourselves with confidence and professionalism. This workshop was a great opportunity for everyone to gain actionable tools for personal and professional growth.
We’re excited to share all the latest happenings with the Hill Marketing Association throughout this academic year!
